Replication & Consolidation

Synerway Appliances can externalize, replicate or consolidate critical data to one or several other Appliances.

Optional modules enable us to:

Ensure local D2D protection by replicating (recopying) all Synerway data to another site.

Consolidate hierarchically all Synerway data, for example, at level 1: local branches consolidate to regional headquarters and level 2: regions to national or central sites.

Eliminate physical media handling and local backup management tasks at branch level.

With replication, consolidation and modules, each site is protected by an automatic copy of local site data to a remote site. In the event of a major incident, the workstation, servers, applications and local protection are all lost. An operational recovery is only possible using a secure remote site copy. With this solution, the organization has ensured its data recovery contract is sound because critical data have been correctly externalized. IT teams also gain valuable time when recovering data.

Target architecture

Several types of architecture can be implemented depending on the available bandwidth, the type of network:

Local protection with centralized data (from N to 1)

Figure 1 – Multi-site protection with centralisation via a WAN or LAN

Local workstation, server and application protection takes place without end-users having to handle media. Whether the Next Data Center is part of a LAN or a WAN, users have a copy of their data and can also externalize to tape or to another central site via the network.

Local protection with data replication (1 to 1)

Figure 2 – Non-centralised multi-site protection via WAN or LAN

Local workstation, server or application protection is also completely automatic and requires no user intervention. Data externalisation, replication or consolidation are scheduled to be performed automatically from each Appliance to another Appliance on a remote or local site. Each Appliance protects a site or group of workstations, servers or applications and is therefore “doubled-up” by another Appliance which guarantees operational recovery if the first set of equipment fails.

These externalisations are performed in either file or block mode and are either total or partial depending on network capacities and data volumes to protect.

Block mode consolidation can be performed using of these 2 modes:

Consolidation with the local Appliance

An Appliance is on the local network and only critical data is consolidated. Local data restoration is rapid and, in the event of a crash, critical data is consolidated.

Consolidation sans Appliance locale

Data backed up in block mode are consolidated to a centralised site. If a restoration is required, a return to operational capacity may be long and depend directly on the network capacity.
