The use of ‘in-house’ systems or other sometimes uncertain solutions created a number of difficulties. The first thing to catch our eye was the simplicity and user-friendliness of the interface. The restoration was successful and also provided us with a chance to test procedures. The Synerway hotline was a great help and very quick off the mark! Our data and environments are safe and as they were before the incident; this new disk crash had no repercussions on either production or orders. We will continue with this operational configuration with precious help from the Synerway hotline.

The Synerway appliance manages office applications with ease, whatever their standard or professional origins, structured or enriched documents, applications, SQL databases, Lotus mail servers and the different workstations… the two data protection schedules are much appreciated: disks which are easy to handle and tapes used for the externalisation of backups enable the restoration and return to activity in the event of a major incident or machine crash. Incremental backups are performed daily. The –now legendary- ease of appliance administration is appreciated for the fact that few people and little time are required to run everything. Contrary to the common belief that the Synerway appliance is easy to integrate, Marc Léonelli, recalls a somewhat complex integration due to an incorrect initial configuration. Philosophical as ever, he now considers that in every new partnership some adjustments and corrections are necessary: «once the solution was in place, the integration of the servers was both simple and rapid».

Why Synerway and which Synerbox model?
«
In 2005, we chose the Synerbox TX 120, an innovative solution presented on the Synerway stand at a trade fair. The company and its appliance were receiving favorable reviews in the specialized press. The technology was an excellent compromise between rapid restoration requirements (disk) and long-term backups (to tape). At the same time as the new medication traceability system was implemented, the number of documents to back up also increased: file server documents, database files (ORACLE, SQL, etc.), registry databases and system files, laptops in addition to Windows Servers Disaster Recovery. All in all, a future backup requirement approaching 1 to 1.5 TB.

As a result at the start of 2008, we switched to the Synerbox DXL 3000, with a RAID5 hard disk bay totalizing 2 TB, and an 8-slot backup library for LTO3 tapes. On average, we run a full backup per week, plus a daily incremental backup.

When you understand the Synerbox methodology, it is clear that its added value lies in its intuitive interface and the fact that most restorations are extremely rapid because they are performed without tapes. Implementing your chosen solution using the Synerbox is totally straightforward.

How was Synerway’s LB900 Synerbox integrated? «Very easily! We plugged the Synerbox in and after a few minor adjustments; it was up and running within the space of two hours!  Nothing in comparison to old and cumbersome systems. We chose a local supplier with sole responsibility for both hardware and software components of the Synerbox solution.»

What came next?
« Due to a significantly different in-house configuration from those Synerway was used to handling, particularly the vast number of servers to backup, Synerway and IT-SIS, the certified reseller, had to apply updates necessary to their software.
